I bought this off of ebay for 10.44, which was the current melt value at the time of purchase. It's either a Dryer Coin or a spooned coin. I offered the seller 10.00 BO, it was declined. Then I offered 10.44 BO, which was the current melt value at the time of purchase. The seller had it labeled as an error, but I knew it wasn't. I explained to the seller in the note that it was not an error coin, and it went through a dryer or was spooned. I said that I'd offer melt value for it and this would be my final offer. Surprisingly, the seller accepted my final offer. It's currently worth 11.21 in silver melt value today. https://www.ebay.com/itm/257588438180

Thank you, jbuck!

I made it clear to the seller that it was my final offer. I wouldn't pay more than melt for it, since it's a damaged coin. I was surprised he took the offer. I thought he'd decline it again. It was a nice surprise.

The seller knew to cut and run once it became clear it was not an error worth a premium.

I'm curious why you bought the coin at melt value. Did you just want the silver, or do you intend to complete the ring making process?

Interesting acquisition, Errers!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Brandmeister, I bought it purely for the silver. Just wanted to stack silver for melt at a good price. It's hard to get silver at melt value on ebay.

It's either a Dryer Coin or a spooned coin.

interesting... kinda looks like a Dryer Coin, but I would think that formerly reeded edge would look a bit more flattish instead of rounded slightly... but I am unfamiliar with a 'spooned' coin. spooned?--- what is that?

By definition, here's what a spooned coin is.

Spooned

A spooned coin often looks like a Dryer Coin. In this case, however, the edge of a coin is intentionally hammered or pressed with the back of a spoon, eventually flattening and widening it.

The process is used to make a coin ring, as in this example:

It looks more like a Dryer Coin to me than a spooned coin, in my opinion.
