I dug it up out of the Onieda River with my Garrett AT pro. From what I was told and read.. Back in the 1800's lots of military traveled that river. British and French and US military. Not sure if that helps . Lol . Thank you guys for letting me in and trying to help.

It was ringing up a 53 on my Garrett AT pro. Thought it was gonna be a nickle.

Given the location of the find and obvious age, my thought is a French military tunic or accoutrement button. Might try some research in that direction.

I'm thinking 1750's for the era, if it's French origin.

It looks like it might be made of lead; my best guess would be a lead seal.

Maybe a button, pendant (hat/coat) , ornament from a box or a gun? Looks 1700's.

Can you clean the soil off without damaging? Maybe soak it in olive oil?
