2019 LSC with repousse cross. Hard to tell from the pictures I think but the obverse is convex and the reverse is concave... I find it amazing that they were able to press out the cross shape with minimal distortion to the coin.

Wow! I wonder if they had a bottom "die" to sit the coin on so most of the force would go into a void when pressing on the other side with a punch? I have often wondered, too, if they used a piece of leather under a coin how much the bottom face would be distorted. Since a Texas penny can be hammered out with leather on both sides I wonder if a punch would also be able to be made with minimal distortion? I need to find an old belt

Quote: I need to find an old belt. Truly I wonder too. It would have to help. If leather were placed between let's say a small anvil and the 'soon to be counter stamped cent' I think it'd offer enough resistance to stamp just fine and not moosh the details on the reverse.

I know I've mentioned on here before that running across one of these types of counter stamps for sale somewhere kind of makes me a little sad. If it shows up for sale, whoever it had meaning to I assume something happened to. Or whatever event it commemorates no longer has meaning to them. It commemorates an anniversary or possibly a birthday for someone born in 1944. 1944 LWC double counter stamped cent. 2021 ABD SLS...

Probably a one of a kind also. Now your job is to find who the ADB & SLS belong to.

Quote:1944 LWC double counter stamped cent. 2021 ABD SLS... Those had to be some tiny punches! Wonder if by hand or by machine engraved?
