Struck Through Grease would result in some of the design (normally letters) missing. Hard to tell from your pictures, but I can't see anything missing from the design. It does appear to be stained by paint, dirt, or grease.

Stained, not struck through.

Yea, I'd put this in the "fell in grease" category. Obverse does look like it was once a nice strike though!
