Is This Serial Number An Error ? - Coin Community Forum

Not only that but the number 8 seems smeared. Can anymore give me more information on this please. Report this Post to the Staff

SteveInTampa Pillar of the Community United States 4637 Posts	Posted 07/16/2018 06:47 am The serial numbers are on turning wheels and are applied to the half-sheets at a high speed. Sometimes the numbers do not lineup exactly perfect and a turned or stuck digit can result....I believe that's why, on occasion, the serial numbers may appear not perfectly straight. I do not know for certain, but I suspect the digits are individually inked, and that may explain why some digits appear darker, or in the OP's case, over inked. Report this Post to the Staff
