Quote: svslav asked: When was AUSTRALIAN proclamation? Proclamation coins These coins are so called following Governor King's 1800 proclamation that certain internationally-circulating coins would have a value in the Australian colony higher than elsewhere. This was known as the 'Proclamation' and it was done in an effort to retain coinage in the fledgling colony and stop it being removed by traders

Thanks turtleoverhead, I wasn't sure if your info was accurate. I was thinking maybe the Dutch had a proclamation about Australia, but then the date didn't fit in. Now I know what "Australian proclamation" is, thanks for the info and the link!

I need to find some of those "junk boxes" too! Or at least follow you around. Do you get these at coin shows or yard sales or ads in the paper?
