I don't know about you guys, but I don't want the half dollars, dollars and 5 oz saucer in OGP. I plan to buy them in NGC slabs..... or maybe PCGS. I got two half dollar sets.

I like the $5 gold in OGP, since the capsule takes up a lot less space than a slab in the safety deposit box. Also, the slab for the 5-oz coin will probably be huge, and possibly very thick.

I'm the opposite - I only want my coins in OGP. I want to manhandle my coins! Seriously though, slabs are fine for some pieces, but for modern comm's OGP is fine for me.

Just tried to get the 5oz silver Apollo 11 proof. Back order already. I did manage to get 1 gold proof and some 1oz silver proof dollars. Going fast.

The gold coin has a rather high mintage compared to recent commemorative gold coins. I don't wonder if they will ever be worth more than issue price (unless the price of gold changes drastically)

...and I guess we can assume now that none of the Apollo 11 offerings will be 'hot'.? I think that is good.

That's a fair question. I bought a bunch of 1999 silver proof sets from the mint and made a killing, but then lost a few bucks on the 2000 silver proof sets. And I still have a few 1999 proof silver SBAs that never climbed above issue price of $10 each... (so with inflation I lost money).

If you're in this for the profit I wish you luck, but I can't even guess where the value will end up in 20+ years...

I bought my Apollo saucer for my personal collection.

Yeah, I looked on ebay and people are selling the half-dollar sets there for a premium over what the mint charges, and they can still be bought from the mint. It is all kind of crazy this coin selling business.

So I can finally see my order on the mints website, everything is there EXCEPT:

Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Five Ounce Proof Silver Doll $224.95 Qty 1 Total:$0.00

Order went through without issue, my total is less the 5oz saucer.

I guess it looks like I'm not getting one. Is there any wishful thinking at all on this?

ETA, going back onto the website it is allowing me to order and pay on the back order. Going to give it a try, worst case scenarios, I get two or none.

So almost two hours into this, I go back and put in a backorder for the saucer. This should be interesting.

Any idea why nothing came up as I was ordering it? It was my first purchase right at 12 noon.

After a thousand tries, I was finally able to place my order at 12:07PM DC time... Everything looked good. Even got a confirmation e-mail at 1:07PM ... Just checked my order on the mint's site and it says:

Quote:
Order Placed: 01/24/19
Order Status: BACKORDER

My card was billed for the full price plus shipping, but the mint's site says:

Quote:
Items (0) Subtotal: 0.00
Shipping & Handling: 4.95
Order Total: 4.95

So who know whether I'll get my coin after all - oh, well.

Though I see several BIN auctions at $340, the saucers seem to actually be selling for around $280... not much flip potential at that price.

It would be interesting to see first day sales figures, and I hope the US Mint will release them.

Oh yeah, and a couple of the Innovation Dollars I'd put off to save $4.95 shipping. :-)
Glad I was not the only one who did this.

My second Mint e-mail came while I was at lunch and the order now shows in my history on the website. Every little step.

Yup....quite a few times. Somehow it didn't like "default address" as a choice either

So almost 3 hours later everything still available, with the 5 oz on back order. Looks like the mintages may have been to high on some of these as they're still plenty to go around.
