Like jbuck, I also buy commemoratives only when they appeal to me. And I can tell you that I've been hyped for this release since 2014. Purchased a 5-ounce and a 2-coin half dollar set; will have to wait until May for them.
Down the line, I'd like to get an impaired or spotted proof silver dollar for use as a pocket piece. I'd like to see how it wears over time. Plus, I'd have a special coin to pull out and show to friends and family!

I was at Ft Sam Houston, Texas, for medical training, when Apollo 11 landed; watched Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon on a 12 inch B&W tv. This series was a "must have" for me.
I ordered 1 of everything, except the gold. The order got through at 12:13, with the 5 oz 'puck' put on back order; must be very popular. I had to be on the road at Noon, so my cell phone was my only option. I was very surprised that I even got through, so the Mint has made some great improvements with their system.

Update: apparently, I'm getting mine earlier than expect. Just got an email from the US Mint with my tracking number!

Wow... I'm curious to see what the gold coin sales are like when the numbers come out.

First-day sale numbers are out. The gold and saucer each around 50% mintage limit, silver 30.4%, clad 13.4%. http://www.coinnews.net/2019/01/25/...n-first-day/Edit to add the footnote: "The half-dollar set has its own product limit of 100,000 with 49.8% of them sold in the first day."

I got my order placed by 12:15 or so (after sweating out the refreshes & similar issued others had). My confirmation email shows the 3 items I ordered and the correct total, but when I look at my order on the Mint's site, it shows $0.00 for the 1 5oz'er I ordered and the correct prices for the other 2 items. Does that mean my 5oz is also in the backorder category?

Gee, based on the sales figures I guess these will be duds in the long run, esp. the 5 oz silver coin with its mark-up.

That's definitely not a good sign sales were that low.

Quote: Does that mean my 5oz is also in the backorder category? Yes! I stated this earlier, but yes the Saucer will show as $0.00 but rest of order will ship.
