DrDarryl Valued Member United States 434 Posts	Posted 12/23/2018 5:04 pm The Victoria Numismatic Society had this crown size coin struck to honor the Royal Canadian Mint's centennial. Only 7 were struck in .999 fine gold. This specimen is a copper test strike (from the original manufacturer). The obverse features the official seal of the Vancouver Island (as an independent crown colony), before joining the Province of British Columbia, and later joining in confederation with Canada. The shield over a Maltese cross and rosary all make sense, but I can't figure out the origin of the "quarters" on the shield containing the fleurs-de-lis.
