The Victoria Numismatic Society had this crown size coin struck to honor the Royal Canadian Mint's centennial. Only 7 were struck in .999 fine gold. This specimen is a copper test strike (from the original manufacturer). The obverse features the official seal of the Vancouver Island (as an independent crown colony), before joining the Province of British Columbia, and later joining in confederation with Canada. The reverse pays tribute to the first coinage struck in Canada, the 1908 large cent.

Quote: Order of Malta -- 9 tari, 1967: Neat coin! Though I find the coat of arms confusing. The shield over a Maltese cross and rosary all make sense, but I can't figure out the origin of the "quarters" on the shield containing the fleurs-de-lis. (The other two quarters appear to have the House of Savoy emblem, which interestingy show up on the next coin posted).
