Is this a planchet flaw? Why is the metal discolored? It appears to be uncirculated by looking at the high points. Picked it up for $10, never owned or even seen a off center penny before in person. Figured for $10 what the heck. Lol I mean I haven't seen a price guide or even something to go off of. once I receive the coin I can take better pics, these were from seller.
Its seems to be 1993 or later. I'm thinking not a planchet flaw, but rather a strike error. As far as price guide might search ebay for other off center strikes that have sold. Thanks, Doug.
The normal stretch is contained with the collar. Without the collar it stretches the coin so much the plating splits. Even in the collar the reverse often see split plating on the outsides of devices and on the obverse on the mint mark area. So it happens.
