mnemtsas, a great coin honoring a great man, "The Liberator". I can barely recall studying about Bolivar in World History over 50 years ago and still have in mind his greatness and what he did for the people of South America. Thanks for showing us the Commemorative of Simon.

This is what I got for this past payday. It should get here sometime this week. I am excited about it, can't wait to see it.

Thanks grouse. Not bad for $5 US I hope. I don't know the value, I just really liked the look of it. Wish it had a few less dings on the front of it but I can live with it.

I just bought the 1999 and 2001 US Mint Silver Proof set as well as the red box. Now I have all the sets issued so far. I also have the 2002 W West Point dollar, NGC MS 70 for my modern commemorative collection. They are pretty cool coins.

The last three weeks has brought around 30 Buffalo nickels to my new album. This week I added low grade 1914 D and S buffalos and laid away a 1913D T-2 as it wasn't even in my dealers shop but he does have it at home so rather than take a chance on losing the darn thing I advised him to put it away for me! I just can't QUIT buying those Buffalo nickels.
I might add my dealer stated, this past week or so, that over the course of the last few decades the strongest performers (across the board) have been the Indian cent and the Buffalo nickels! Are any of you aware of this?

Terry,
What grade are your buffalos? I would love to start a collection but they're so expensive. And I'm just not attracted to the worn Buffalos.

Shatsi, I usually take whatever I can get in the harder to get dates and mint marks as they can be upgraded should the opportunity arise. You will have to learn to accept the Buffalo nickel as a work horse of the time period, full of history and full of beauty. I have quite a few unc and AU. buffalos but realize the lower grades are a must to affordably complete the series. Some of the dates/mint marks are seldom seen at my dealer so I take whatever comes in the door as long as their is NO doubt about the date. I, like you, really do prefer higher grades but filling a set of buffalos, especially today, is quite a challenge and I want to make sure my little guy has a set and quite honestly I just can't stop buying them! Guess I am addicted!!!

for me, a 2001 3 cent piece from Canada, and a waffled coin. I just love the look of them, even though my dad (also a coin collector) thinks they are more like "freak coins" than something worth collecting.

Hi Terry, I just love the Buffalo's as well in any form. I don't have many of the nickels but I did pick up my 1913 type2 in VG 8 for 25 cents!! The coin dealer had it in one of his rummage bins and didn't realise what it was

Grouse12 it is good to see there are buffalo lovers all over the world. I target New Zealand coins when something strikes my fancy. In the past few years some of the NZ commemoratives have been beyond stunning and a must have in my opinion. I regret not getting into foreign coins (the darkside) until 2002 when the Euro was released. That move put me on the search for other world coins, both modern and classics, and I have had nothing but fun ever since. While I am a huge silver lover my heart is stuck on the buffalo. Guess we may need to start an International Buffalo Collectors Society or something?
