Wolf there's a DVD put out by an America called Chris Gholson (spelling ?)"Nugget Hunting Essentials" comes in 2 parts (part 1 & 2)if you can find these DVD's it would be worthwhile buying them there about $45.00 the set, they show you a hands on approach to metal detecting/gold hunting better than a book can explain,It may be very hard to find them in the U.S.there no existent here in Australia. Don't forget to swing low and slow, regards Harry.

Thanks Harry, I will look for it. Have read a lot of what you sent (trying to obsorb it all). Their is a ton of good info in the literature. A lot of info I did not know. It all makes good sense also. When are you headed to the fields? Still at X-mas time? Don't know if I will be able to make it up again before snow starts to fall but am going to try. If it is not bad at X-mas at my property I may try around there. Now that I have an arsenal of info to go from. WOLF

Will be swinging the GPX 5000 in the Golden Triangle in Victoria tomorrow or the day after just for a trial,I'll hit some of the spots that I hooked nuggets from in the past to see if there any I missed, glad the information has come in handy and if you need any more just let me know what your stuck on and I'll help as much as I can. And yes Christmas will be the big test just to see if the new detector live up to the hype there giving it. Don't forget to swing low and slow, regards Harry

Harry, I'm swinging a Whites DFX-300 model detector and am not aware of the GPX-5000. Who is the manufacturer and is this a gold machine only? WOLF

This is an Aussie metal detector made in South Australia by a company called Minelab, you may have heard of the X-Terra 70 coin detector well this is It's biggest brother, this is the top of the range and yes a gold detector but it does have 8 modes and one of them is a coin and relic mode that's if you get board with finding gold . I should have left some time to-day but the Staffie's kept barking so I've had no sleep, will try and hit the sack again and leave some time to-night,don't forget to swing low and slow. regards Harry

Well I just got back from the Victorian Golden Triangle I only had one day to detect which was Sunday, can you guess what I did I christened the GPX 5000 and the GPX 4500 was christened by my mate Tim , gold! the GPX 5000 a total of 7gr the GPX 4500 a total of 3gr and between three of us just over half an oz (Norm with 6gr). I have a memory stick with the photo's of the day on it and do you know I can remember what I did with it,anyway I've taken some photo's of Tim's and my gold with shaking old hands (that's why some a blurred) but until I find the memory stick I can't show you Norm's gold, first photo is of the detectors then the gold and last is of a 1865 U.S. 2 cent piece found in the Victorian gold fields. These are the mono heads I use,the white one is the 11"inch and the other is the 17"inch. This is 10gr of the 16gr found on Sunday. These two were my biggest. And the coin this was Tim's find. For a bloke that wasn't going to add any more to this thread yeeerrrr right I can't help my self.

I'll send you one Wolf when I come back from the wild west, and to find a U.S 1865 2 cent piece in the Aussie gold fields is a great find mate, while I was at the detecting store the owner showed me an Aussie 1930 penny (F to VF) found in the W.A. gold fields that's the equivalent of finding a 1895 Phili Morgan dollar,he also confirmed reports of a 30 kg nugget found in the W.A. gold fields too. In Sudan as you know there's a new gold rush and the Aussie title of the biggest nugget found with a metal detector (the hand of Faith @ 876oz)has been eclipsed by a detector fined in the Sudan of a nugget weighing 1,129 oz,and if you think of going there just remember that they still conduct business with an AK47 so how precious is your life. I'll leave you thinking on that image,so don't forget to swing low and slow. Regards Harry

O.K. so I'll pack my AK and some ammo and meet ya there. Your the pro so I'll provide security for ya. Just let me know when to meet ya there. I cannot even fathom a nugget that weighs in at 1,129 OZ. Hell, I'm still lookin for one that weighs a gram. HA! You know as well as I that it is about finding it. Sure, I could go buy a nugget but it would not mean the same as if I found one. I'm looking forward to that rush. the same kind as when I find silver coins only multiplied by a few thousand. Now if I ever find that 1930 Aussie penny, it's yours. Talk at ya later my friend. WOLF
