It may clean up a little, a few black spots that I have not attempted to acetone off. Also still working on getting decent shots with the lights and shine and unfriendly camera setup.

Forget it , this coin will not clean up with acetone or anything else .Those spots look like the dreaded black plague that attacks 95% copper cents . This Lincoln is just a spender .

I save all but the very worst S mint cents. Why? Because I can.

Thanks, I suspected that. I will add black spots to the cull criteria. I have many, many rolls of these and am more interested in what to pick out to keep; was looking for clean strikes with minimal scratches and dings or anything unusual.

For coins that have done little beyond sit in a paper roll, they have an awful lot of marks and this whole roll has a ton of the black as well.

The black spots are common, sometimes straight from the mint, but usually due to poor storage. I wouldn't automatically cull a coin over a black spot or more because it could still be the best one you'll find.

Most of the 70's cents (and later) are garbage right off the mint press averaging MS60-63. They made billions and didn't care about dings, dents, spots or die state.

Thanks guys. I have a hard time at 60+ as each tick there is so important. Let me see if I can find a 65+ in all these rolls...
