1943-P Washington Quarter With A Very Long Die Crack!

Willburton Pillar of the Community United States 2558 Posts	Posted 04/11/2020 07:56 am This one has possibly the biggest die crack I've seen on anything under a Morgan dollar. It's iffy whether it goes uninterrupted through the wreaths but even if it doesn't, still an awesome die crack. What do y'all think? Report this Post to the Staff

kanga Pillar of the Community United States 5825 Posts	Posted 04/11/2020 08:40 am By gosh, I think you've got it! Not something I've ever seen on a 20th century coin. That sort of feature is generally 19th century, particularly pre-Civil War. If it were mine, I'd check further to see how scarce/rare that is on 20th century coins. If it IS scarce/rare then I'd check with PCGS or NGC to see if they would put that attribution on a slab. If either would I'd spend the $50 to get it slabbed. But definitely check the rarity factor first. Report this Post to the Staff

When I get back home to Florida, whenever that is(our of work for time being), I can look at it closer and possibly resubmit. The crack does appear to go to the rim through the R of DOLLAR. And Spence, it looks like a clash around the neck. There's also a couple of long cracks on the obverse. These dies were ready to be retired.
