Proper Use Of 2x2 For Storage - Coin Community Forum

Newby123 New Member United States 7 Posts	Posted 06/22/2020 10:17 am I use a "proper" 2x2 to store my coins, i.e.: half dollar in half dollar 2x2, etc. The hole in the 2x2 is just barely big enough to store the coin in. I was wondering if I could use a large dollar 2x2 for a half dollar. Is there "proper protocol" to which 2x2 to use. Will it make the coin more susceptible to dust or moisture? I staple on all four sides but have noticed some stapled in corners. Does it matter how stapled? I tried the internet for answers. I did find a How to use 2x2 on this Forum but didn't answer these questions. Report this Post to the Staff

fplagge Pillar of the Community United States 660 Posts	Posted 06/22/2020 10:58 am IMHO, there are no hard and fast rules regarding using 2X2 flips for your coins. Use whatever makes you happy. The same goes for any staple placements. I do recommend flattening the staples to prevent them from scratching other co-mingled coins. Aesthetically speaking, I recommend using the same type of 2X2 flips for all coins of the same type so that your presentation looks pleasing to the eye. Report this Post to the Staff

Four staples are better than three,and make sure to flatten them.Also make sure to get the dust out of the 2x2 before you staple it. John1 Report this Post to the Staff

You can see the edge of the coin, and often using the "proper" size the mylar has a tendency to "stretch", and seems to be more likely to develop holes around the edge of the coin allowing air in and spotty toning.
