1881 3 Cent Nickel Error - Coin Community Forum

HeavySilver New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 06/20/2020 05:26 am I have an 1881 3 cent like the title says but it has what looks like left over Die Cud on the upper left I in the Roman numeral III. It's adds to the edge just a little but clearly noticeable with the naked eye. Anyone with experience with this error/year? It's late and I kept messing up the pic so I will have to add that tomorrow morning. Thanks for any help! Report this Post to the Staff

There are a lot of 3 cent nickel Cuds known, The Margolis book "The Design Cud" is the one to check, it's out of print (one on ebay but expensive), I don't see it mentioned in Gifford's Ultimate 3 Cent Nickel book, I don't have Kevin Flynn's book at hand right now. Nothing on the cuds-on-coins website for 1881 either. I guess your photo will tell us more is it a true edge Cud or an interior Cud above the #1 column?
