Not a 1968/3. Physically not possible. Looks as if the 8 has taken a blow to make it appear to be split.

@hmt, you can edit a post by clicking on the little icon of a pencil and paper.

With regard to your coin, it looks to me like the date took a hit that has caused part of the number 8 to be at a different height compared with the rest of the date. If you look at a cent dated 1963, you will see that the number 3 is quite different looking.
