When something is incuse on a die, it creates a raised area. On a doubled die, the doubling on the die, leaves an extra incuse area on the die that is from the hub. That is called hub doubling. It is raised on the coin. Thus die chips are also voids on a die, but not created by the hub, but the die is at fault. Breakdown from extreme die useage, or a die event happened that damaged/altered the die, crack the die, even die scratches and gouges create small voids on a die. But these are die events. Only a hub issue when the die is created, makes a doubled die. The doubled die start off from coin number one. Other die events happen during the life of a die.
