@bgr, looks like all damage to me (not a mint error)--most likely from someone with anger issues and a hammer.

Agree--damage, and a lot of it. Likely intentional, or the coin fell into some form of machinery and the edges took a royal beating. Not an error.

It's almost at the point where it's no longer 'legal tender'.
I doubt it can be used in any coin machinery, and even some humans might reject it. Be happy if you can still get 25-cents for it.

It doesn't really matter what happened to it. It lost an argument with a hammer and anvil. A damaged coin is just worth face value. If wrecked cars were a factory error, the junk yards would be full of examples of rare cars.
