Here is a 1954S that the Mint mark is connected to the 5 on the date, I believe its a die gouge that causes this? Does not appear to be a die crack. I believe cracks are more of a jagged line?

Die crack or die gouge. Very minor. But nice looking coin.

Could be a gouge, but my money is on a die crack based on its placement coming off the tip of that number 5.

1954 was a bad [or good] year for die chips, brakes and cracks. Some of them almost obliterate the 9 5 and s.
