OK people while looking through some Wheat penny rolls I found this 1936 S penny with a proof like finish. The problem I have here is according to the PCGS coin facts site the two types of proof coins came from Philadelphia with a brilliant or satin type of finish. To me this coin exhibits more or the brilliant finish. All thoughts are appreciated.

The photos posted, unfortunately, don't seem to show a proof-like finish. You have the advantage of having the coin in-hand, we can only view what's posted. Any chance you could post new, large and sharp photos taken in soft, 'natural' light? Thanks.

Looks like this coin has been whizzed with a buffing wheel. Look around the devices, they are not shiny because the wheel couldn't get up close enough to edges of them.

Any proof coin from 1936 will not have a mint mark. They were all minted in Philadelphia.

There seem to be all kinds of markings in the obverse fields.

Agree this is a business strike with questionable color .

I'm with Cujohn, it looks to have been whizzed. All the high spots and open fields are super shiny and the tight, tough to get to spots are not.

Thanks for the input. This why I ask. As far as getting a better photo I will give it a whirl. The coin microscope I have is on the cheap side with a low quality LED light.

The proofs didn't have an 'S' mintmark on them until 1968-S cents. (There were Business strikes (s) a Proof (s) ones that year)
