Coins like this are easy to buy but incredibly tough to sell. Save your money - you will never be happy with this.

I'd be happy with it at face value!

I've heard of one rule for collectors. Before buying, ask yourself the question-will I be able to sell it at the same price at which I bought it.

Quote:
Hard to imagine why someone sent it in for grading
.
Perhaps this coin meant something to the person who sent it for evaluation. Perhaps it was a memory of an event or a person.

Quote:
At that price, I would have to buy it over the counter at a coin show, or from a dealer direct. The extra cost of shipping fees are not justified.
.

Delivery is the point in expenses that I cannot ignore in any way. I think it's very cheap if the seller charges $ 15-16, but usually it's more expensive or worse, the seller does not send it outside the USA (Most of these sellers on ebay).

IMO, if $100 is a stretch for a decent G coin, then the $ you do have should be treated with a premium and putting into this is doing your budget a disservice. There are so many better options even if it's not a 20 cent right now. Do yourself a favor and be patient.

Now if this was an 1876-CC, then we'd be speaking in a different tune. But this, I'd wait until a nice, preferably problem-free example, showed up.

There are still 8 days until the end of the auction, and the bid has already exceeded $ 20.

I have a very good friend and numismatic mentor named Richard who always asks to see what I have bought recently. He then fires off extremely valuable, direct and honest opinions without holding back.

So when I'm deciding on a purchase of a less than stellar coin, I always ask myself, "Would I show this to Richard? What would he say about it?"

Needless to say, I would not show this coin to Richard.

There are less than a day left before the end. I made a bet of $30, but it was outbid.

With hammer fees and shipping, that $30 may be like $45. Great news is you still have $30-45 to do something better with! Keep saving for another month or two. You are halfway to a respectable example! Be patient.

A good deal on a bad coin still ends up with you owning a bad coin. This is a bad coin. Wait a month, three months, six months - whatever it takes - to save up a little more for a nicer example. You can likely find a nice circulated G or VG coin with decent eye appeal for an affordable amount. It would be worth a bit of a wait to get a better coin.

All this time while the auction was going on, I was thinking. Especially in the last 2 days. Seeing that similar coins in the FR-02, AG-03, G04 cost from $ 50 to about $ 100, I still decided to postpone the purchase and let the coin go under the hammer to another collector. As a result, she left for $33 + taxes. Total $38. Excluding delivery. I would have said another $18 for the delivery. But I had an idea to buy at least one more coin to save a little. Now I'm actively looking for 20 cents. Perhaps I will still take it with details, but now not as serious and big as the hole in this coin. If you have any suggestions and tips for me, please write them. I will try to listen to them

I'm glad you decided to pass on this one, Slerk. Based on my own past experiences, had you actually won the auction you would have eventually ended up getting a better one down the road anyway due to how awful this example was. Better to just put away a little bit of extra cash here and there until you can afford to get one you will actually be satisfied with.
