1966 P Dime I Believe A Way Overpolished Die, And What Are The Raised Areas On The Left

gsp193 Pillar of the Community United States 975 Posts	Posted 03/13/2022 9:55 pm I am going through some dimes and came across this 1966P. It has extremely strong die scratches all over the reverse which makes me think a way over polished die as leaves are polished out and letters on rim are thinned. But the left side as you look at it has raised metal from the leaves through Pluribus and ends between the N and E of One that looks like a die clash but I do not think they line up with the obverse for a clash so I am curious if thats just part of the over polishing or what it is. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/14/2022 12:12 pm Just extreme die scratches. There was probably an event called Feeder Fingers Damage that altered the coin. On this design, they are horizontal lines behind the design: To rescue this die, they over polish the reverse so much that are become flat on the fields: On the newer designs, the profile is not as tall, so this polishing can alter many devices on both sides of the coin because of the die abrasion.
