Hey everyone,

I found this quarter roll hunting and at first glance thought it was PMD. The raised copper circular line on the obverse the size of a penny. The weight falls within tolerance, 5.8. Any opinions?

most likely it's a stain from a coin that had been on top of it

How did the stain get behind the liberty and in god we trust?

the same way it did other areas, but it was subsequently wiped or worn off high spots like the tops of the lettering

Possibly something was wet when it was put on it and it ran to the lowest areas.
Doesn't really matter as whatever it is happened after the coin was struck so it is still damage.

and you are saying a stain would not affect the raised letters and also be raised> I've never seen that in my 20 years of collecting. Appreciate the input.

Looks more like a cup holder coin with the stains and the surface Scratches.

Could be a cup holder coin, but my vote is for this quarter having come from a fountain or other water feature. Either way it surely is damage.

Black coffee which it is mild acid over the quarter. Clean boiling in boric acid and majority of the stains will go out without damage.
