coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 04/05/2022 7:53 pm Contour removal after the strike by a loose machine. Happens a lot more on the larger coins than on the smaller ones. Contour shows the light to dark colors on a coins devices. When Machine Doubling happens on a contoured edge, the light to dark is abrupt. The flat area shows light, instead of darkness that should be seen on contour. This is seen on the outside/inside edges of devices machine doubled devices. Only a doubled die, will strike doubled hub devices. Machine doubling doesn't create a doubled die, but a doubled die can have Machine Doubling. So if the light to dark gradual appearance is not on the devices, it is probably Machine Doubling on the strike. Edited by coop 04/06/2022 2:14 pm Report this Post to the Staff
