What do you think is going on with this Mintmark ? Is it just Machine Doubling or maybe an RPM?

@MrBreeze: If possible, please provide a close-up image of "FREEDOM" on the reverse. There is a known variety of this coin with a double die reverse that also has a mint mark that looks like yours.

My guess was RPM - but was unaware of the DDR coin commems mentions.

To my eye, the additional photos of FREEDOM do not appear to indicate a DDR.

It could just be artifacts related to the lighting/imaging, but I detect doubling on several of the letters in "FREEDOM" - namely, on "FREEDO". I'll let specialists in die doubling chime in here to get more opinions.

Even if the coin does prove to have minor doubling, I agree with nickelsearcher - the mint mark appears to be the result of being re-punched.
