I got a few, "new to me" 1994 bullion coins. Bought this one as I thought the toning was interesting. Slender hues of blue close to the rim, transitioning to dark purple vignettes up to the mint silver. It was an award to an employee working for GTE (now Verizon), incased as shown, with an acrylic insert. It has a slight ding on the reverse above the 2nd T in states. It passes the magnet and weight tests. The toning looks natural to me, what are y'alls thoughts?

Original casing.

Looks ok...for now. Kinda looks like it might start to turn black, which in my mind means more of a tarnish issue than toning...IMHO.

I'll agree that the darkening is a tarnish vs a toning of the coin. The arc of tarnish was formed when it was stored with another coin (slightly smaller - maybe a silver dollar) was on top of it covering most of the ASE and not allowing the tarnish to progress to the center of the coin.

However, that all said, It is a nice looking bullion coin.

Your storage method for the coin will go a long way in determining how the toning that is present progresses.

The toning could grow darker and spread or it could slow to the point that it appears to have stopped. The more exposure to air/the environment, the more likely the toning will darken/expand. Storage in an Air-Tite or similar capsule could greatly slow further darkening or spread, while keeping it in its present holder will likely allow for further toning.

Though I'm not a fan of dark toning, I would likely keep the coin in its "Employee" holder. It's a common coin without a significant market premium and it's connection to being an sward is far more interesting than the coin itself. Keeping it together with its holder is a nice way to preserve its story!

Agreed, after taking the images, it went straight into a new capsule. I'll keep the capsule it came in and the acrylic insert separate from the bullion.
