I've been looking through pennies recently and I found this 1974 penny. It looks like something is wrong with the 4 on the date. I'm not sure if this is an actual error or just damage. Any ideas?

Looks to me to be a DDO from what I can tell as well as a woody but I'm not sure what's up with the 4 probably just damage or maybe a lamination error but I would def add that to your collection of DDO woodies if you get a chance go check out my latest topic about my "Beautiful 1988 MS+ Penny with a Cud on the reverse" and give me some input pretty please! Thanks &

The number 4 on your CENT has post mint damage by a blow of some sort.

I do not believe this is a DDO, the date is damaged by a hit in circulation.

Yes I agree that the number 4 took a hit—not a mint error. Otherwise, the surface coloration is quite pleasant.

Not an error. The 4 took a hit from being circulated, the 7 looks like it to.Not a DDO and not a woody. Those are roller lines.

This is a large date example with damage on the '4'. Nice looking woody affect on the obverse.

In a little late with this... The 4 took a circulation hit and the lines on the obverse appear to be roller lines, not the woody (alloy) issue.
