Ok this Medal / Bullion from 1977 Johnson Matthey comes in a leather case much like the Canadian Mint which seems odd because the few I see online have velvet cases. There is also no serial number but none of the 1977 seem too . The later years do . Maybe this is the first year they minted these ? Value ?
Thanks

It's worth melt value at the very least. I've done a few searches, and there does not seem to be a great numismatic premium on these. The fancy packaging was probably just a marketing gimmick back then to justify an inflated price. But that's just my 2¢
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

In 1977 gold was selling at a little over $160 an ounce! If you would have had it that long it would be a nice little pot-o-gold!

Maybe there's more of a market for it in Canada vs the US? You might be able to find a local dealer for that little .9999 piece. Beats melt that's for sure. There's always someone, somewhere that are looking for oddities or unknown gold pieces.

Oh, lookie what I found! https://libertycoin.com/1977-canada...gp-wg-02805/

Also, APMEX lists them as out of stock and I believe they sell them for about $2,000. https://www.apmex.com/product/36116...eaver-castor

Is this the case that your coin came in? These were commonly used in Canada back then for proofs and gold coins. It's Moroccan Leather. Nice!

Yes that's the case. Has 1977 on the side so it fits the year .

US compounded inflation rate 1977-2023 is 394.83%.
Price of gold should now be around $ 640
It isn't.
Current US spot for gold approx $1865
A paper profit of 2.91x can now be realized, less states taxes.

We don't have State taxes here. WooHoo! Ofcourse, we only have a population of a little over 1 million for such a large land mass.

We still haven't reached the US price inflationary number from 1980 at 13% or 12% mortgage rates...thank heavens!
