joewobblie Valued Member United States 238 Posts	Posted 03/14/2023 7:42 pm Here is one I haven't found out much about, perhaps someone here has some info to add. It measures 30 mm. We can see a number of medals regarding Admiral Dewey from the Spanish-American War but apparently Schley didn't quite rate as high. At least I haven't been able to find other medals or even this one online. I did find him on a stamp and another medal with Dewey. Mucking around on the internet I found this little bit. "November 6-7: Rear Admiral Winfield Schley, hero of the Spanish-American War made a visit to Birmingham. His party stayed at the Morris Hotel, where a luncheon and dinner reception were held. He also attended a concert by a "Mexican Band" at the Birmingham Auditorium and heard them again at a "smoker" at the Southern Club. The next day, Admiral Schley reviewed a "grand parade" which also marked the opening of the 1899 Alabama State Fair." Report this Post to the Staff

joewobblie Valued Member United States 238 Posts	Posted 02/18/2024 3:00 pm Thanks for the response Vitold718 - I look on and off in the last few years but found only a few articles about Schley speaking at the fair I did see a similar medal from the same fair without Schley on it My guess is it has little value but perhaps we will get lucky!
