Die chips are one indication that the dies used to strike coins were getting tired. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 05/22/2023 11:17 am The white area is paper debris that is on the coin. The incuse marks are damage to the coin. It this were a die issue, it would be raised, not incuse on that area of the design. Mintmarks were stopped being added in 1990. So it is not a die issue. (Damage issue) Report this Post to the Staff

Pictures can fool you and even switch between the two as you look at them. If it is raised, it's a die chip. ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting?
