Is it worth the acetone? Or is this just the most undesirable toning imaginable?

Decent-ish luster but still...

Thoughts would be appreciated!

Acetone as a starter - at least try to determine the gunk makeup. Almost looks like ED, has it eaten into metal? Upload a close-up pic if you can.

The surface area feels worn but smoother than I'd imagine for ED...

Looks just like ugly toning, possibly etched onto the surface. I doubt acetone will do anything, but it doesn't hurt to try. Since it's a bullion coin anyway, you could try a silver dip, but it's probably too far gone to improve the appearance much.

I don't see a dip adding any value.

Ya, I'd say a dip is worth a go. Maybe diluted as an initial test to see if it lifts any of that black with a quick in and out.

that is some heavy tarnish that may not come off with a standard acetone soak. This being a bullion in my eyes, a dip or gentle silver polish won't hurt.

I'm in the minority I know, but I like that toning...it's even across the coin and not to dark. I would keep it as a pocket piece and see how it pans out in a year or two in my pocket.
