Brazil (1835) countermarked 40 reis - host coin 1830 80 reis  Brazil (1835) Maranhao countermarked 20 reis - host coin 1832 80 reis  Both of these coins are dated by their countermarks |

@mys posted a Hard Times Token upthread--here is mine, which is datable to 1835. It was issued by John J Adams, a cousin of former President John Adams. Interestingly, this piece has provenance back to the ANS. I have attributed it as Rulau HT#181.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
