USA-1-Cent-1955:-Why-The-Distorted-Last-5?

The last 5 in "1955" is a bit distorted-extended. I am sure that this is nothing but could someone explain the reason why?

This is called a "Poor Man's DDO" on 1955. Not a true DDO but Die Deterioration instead. And decent die cracks on the skull. It's a keeper in my book!

There are also a few other years of Wheat cent's that have the same problem.

Agree, seen on several years during the 1950s, but most commonly the 1955.

Nice example of the 'poor man's doubled die' (PMDDO) Yes, evil Die Deterioration at work. Even has the signature cracked skull. I hold onto high grade examples of the '55 PMDDO.

Die Deterioration Doubling on the date, and a Cracked Skull. Very common on the 1955 wheat cents.

The Die Deterioration on the 1953 date gets even worse.

Thanks, folks.

I see from the ebay listings that this might sell for a few dollars.
