It could be an impaired silver proof or just a plated coin. What is the weight of your quarter, Vegas107?

Thx for following up with the weight. That seems within mint specs so most likely this coin was plated after it left the mint. As I recall you could buy different sets of silver- and gold-plated State Quarters on TV shopping channels.

You can obviously see the plating coming off - especially on the reverse!
