Hello All, still trying to add to my coin hunting knowledge. This old gal has quite the wow in it so I assumed PMD but didn't know if there is any mechanism during the minting that could cause this. One pic just to capture the toning. Cheers!
I had one similar that I studied for awhile. Was distorted a little bit more, with no visible or physical damage. It reminded of an article I read about possible ejection damage after the strike or after being ejected from the striking chamber. Generally marks would be present in this case. The problem is proving it happen at the mint. Thanks, Doug.
Interesting piece. The fact that it is heavily circulated decreases the odds of being a mint error. If it happened at the Mint, it would have been plucked from circulation earlier, either by a collector or by mechanical means.
I don't see any real damage to indicate a vise job...just seems to have been bowed out; thinner on a couple ends as well which is why I shared. Is there a picture angle that would be helpful?
