Got these yesterday from my favorite seller on ebay.

The 2x2 on the 48-D is kind of gunked up slightly. Not sure why. The coin itself wasn't too bad, though.

So, any idea at what point in the Wheat cents series that the proofs become affordable?

Well, I guess it depends on how you define affordable.

In 1956 they get cheap.

Ehh, well. I don't really know. I suppose it depends.

10 dollars and under... Yeah that's pretty affordable. 20 dollars and more... I mean... not too expensive. Getting to be 40-50 dollars or more.. At least for me, Starting to get up there.
So, like I said, I'm not really sure. Lol.

Under $20, you can probably start around 1941, depending on how strict you are on the grade.

Interesting. All the ones I'm seeing on ebay going that far back are pretty expensive. They also seem to have a pretty weak strike.

I have not really shopped them on ebay. You should do better looking for these at a coin show.

Ah. I see. Sadly, for my chaotic schedule, it's normally an ebay thing for purchases.

I do intend to go to one of these days when there is one on a weekend my wife doesn't work.
