The coin has seen its dings but please tell me I am not crazy when I say...Class IV Double Die offset Hub Doubling(Wexlar)? Both Obverse and reverse are showing errors. Please advise, and thank you. NOTE: The whole picture of obverse/reverse are a bit blurry but the coin scope shows better. Report this Post to the Staff

In my very limited novice experience, the plating disturbance goes in multiple directions, not just towards the rim, you can see this in the OP's coin. Also, I see little or no heavy flow lines or sunburst that you will see from a highly deteriorated die. Lastly, that is the first thing that pops into my head when I see this type of anomaly with a zincoln, Occam's razor, and then look for what does not support Die Deterioration. To me, it most definitely looks raised. Just my opinion though, still learning with you, Marve. -makecents- Report this Post to the Staff

You were correct in what you saw, just not the kind of doubling you want to find. This is extremely common and just an issue with this particular coin type, copper plated zinc coins have many issues.
