Purchased a small batch of 'Roman' coins last Thursday at my favourite market. Most are ok for me to identify but I think this one is a small Greek. A point in the right direction would be great. Sorry if the reverse picture is not the right way around but no clue as to what it is. Thank you. Kev.
The two pellets with short line between them at 5:00 of the reverse might suggest the top of a cornucopia - albeit a poorly engraved one. Based on that theory (weak as it may be), as well as the approximate chalkous size of the coin and the overall chucky fabric, here are some Ptolemaic chalkoi (in this case from Paphos, Cyprus) for comparison: https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...=1&es=1&ot=1¤cy=usd&order=0
Update: Here's another, more extensive search with adjusted terms. Since "chalk*" is left out of the terms, the results vary greatly in size. But it's worth looking through for the smaller denominations: https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...=usd&order=0
Thank you Bob for the links, great job. Yes it's a cool little coin chrsmat71, there is always something interesting in the little batches from a small 2nd hand market that I visit every Thursday, I will be there again tomorrow
