Hello everyone,

I recently found what appears to be a 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar with an eagle reverse on both sides. It was mixed in with several ordinary Susan B. Anthony dollars in a friend's loose coin container. It wasn't purchased as a novelty or Magician's coin as far as I know.

Here are the details:
Date: 1979
Weight: 8.026 grams
Diameter: Appears normal (I'll measure if requested.)
Thickness: Appears normal compared to other SBA dollars.
Edge: Reeded and appears continuous. I've inspected it closely and have not found an obvious seam.
Composition: Appears identical to a normal SBA dollar.
Both sides: Eagle reverse design (two reverses/no Susan B. Anthony portrait).

I've attached photos of:
Both sides of the coin.
The edge.
The weight on a digital scale.

My understanding is that no authenticated double-reverse Susan B. Anthony dollars are documented, so I'm trying to determine whether this is:
•A professionally made two-tailed/magician's coin,
•A privately altered coin, or
•Something that warrants professional authentication.

I'd appreciate opinions from those experienced with mint errors and altered coins. If additional photos or tests would help, I'm happy to provide them.
Thank you!

To CCF! It has to be a Magician's coin. A well made one at that.

A couple close-ups of (especially) the side with what appears to be a ring around the edge might help show if it is a Magician's coin.

This option gets my vote. While I agree that the edge doesn't show a seam, your first image shows what appears to be a seam along the rim that is especially noticeable in the region of the word DOLLAR. It is a fun find though and is worth saving in a 2x2.

Thank you everyone. I'm going to put it in my collection for a good conversation piece. Thank you also for pointing out the seam line by the word Dollar. I didn't even really notice it until it was pointed out. I'm still impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship

A great way to win a bet. More people choose heads than tails, iirc. Just remember to keep a normal Susan B in the same pocket but separate, in case someone demands to inspect it closer! =)
