Ilikeikes- your Ike error coins are quite impressive. How exactly did you "buy it in the nick of time"? Last minute ebay auction?

IF..IF it had a CAC sticker..I would actually consider it...otherwise, I'd have to see it in hand..labels can be deceiving..especially from PCGS...

BUGO...FYI...free coin cropping software from http://www.photoscape.com
I used it on your 73-S...I use the filters to darken-lighten coins with issues(rpm's, DDO's, clashed), to study the coin better, and, you can combine cropped OBV. & REV. shots for sales, or, entries into forums, without having to download 2 pics....a great free site!

I'd like to as well jbuck but at this point I don't think I should use coin displays worth more than my coin collection.........
Well, I would probably not display it. It would be for my own enjoyment.

but I have to have the BLUE one.
I was thinking the exact same thing!

Jbuck- it would be cool if we both worked on doing this type of set at the same time. I say we go for it!
Sorry, but I promised myself I would fill my last three Dansco albums before starting anything else. Then again, you know what they say about promises...

Man, that MS69 is gorgeous, and I don't even use that word! This past week I picked up an odd-looking '71-S Proof which I call the "lightsaber strike" Ike. There is a brown streak of toning which fades to a subtle rainbow on its periphery. It sort of looks like it was sliced with something hot, you know, like a lightsaber. I think most would find this coin rather ugly, but I just had to have it. I'm going to keep a look out for more of these types- maybe build a custom sub-set of oddball Ikes like this one. I'm curious if this toning will continue to advance over time. I guess time will tell.

I also picked up this TDO with the idea that PCGS may some day attribute it. I won't hold my breath. I think it would have already happened by now. Still can't get over how small the slab is.

I saw that toned 71-S...see my post for the bleeding nose toned IKE, 1 page back....I'm a huge fan of Dr. Wiles..he's like the last straight-forward IKE attributor that calls it like it is(I cannot make heads not tails of the IDDD setup/system..it just confuses me, no matter how hard I have tried to understand it), anyway, I'd send that Anacs 71-S to Wiles, and, get a number from him...then, you can reslab at anacs, with the proper label...Wiles's CONECA IKE Booklet is very helpful with getting rid of Series Doubling, Master Doubling, and, getting down to the nitty griity of a true hubbed double die...most of what we find are in the "Families" of FS-103, or, FS-106, with "bookend" notching running from crisp, EDS, to washed out LDS, but, share the same direction in IGWT, Date, and such.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. To me, Morgan VAMs seem much more straightforward. How would I go about sending this to Dr. Wiles, ilikeikes? This is something I may very well end up doing.

Also, what do EDS and LDS stand for? Thanks.

Well worth the small prices involved..when you get your signed letter back, if it has an official attribution, send a copy of that in with material to document designation...Anacs will label Wiles's numbers on the label, if this is done..I do not belive NGC or PCGS will use his system. If a big ticket coin(FS-101, 103, 106, 401 high grade, 501 high grade), most in IKE Group prefer PCGS..WITHOUT paying 55 bucks for variety fee, yet, send in for a DIVA card/attribution, then, slap them into their set registries as such in their private notes...If any of you in here don't know, the Ikegroup.org has updated it's DIVA system, and, it is beyond awesome...drag the link to what you think you have, open the file for their pics(usually, they show significant markers as well), and, print the forms out...it's an incredible new tool that was put together by some very hard working guys in the group this year. As far as other sites, they are what they are...the founders know how it works, as they designed it..I sure don't have a clue...and, the thousands of pics fries my firefox, every time, even with high speed ...

ilikeikes- in the auction description for the toned 71-S the seller states that it is a "Funny Foot" variety with a DDO as well. Should I send this one in too? Could this be an odd duck? I'm kind of intrigued now. It's late, so I'm going to get the loupe out tomorrow to investigate it for myself and compare it with the reference book.

study the ike group diva pics for 71-s proof DDO's...if yours is similar, worth a trip in for viewing..my feeling is, IMHO, IF the notching goes INTO the W & E of iGWT, all of LIBERTY, hair, and some of date, then probably a known variety...if it stops at IN , and TRUS..& G....then....hmmmm...a million of these, either washed out of above, or, series doubling, master doubling...

I found the mint mark on the TDO very interesting. Ike experts: Is this the key diagnostic for this variety? I'm trying to find good microscopic images of the TDO in other areas to compare mine with. Not that I doubt ANACS- I just want to see it for myself.

TDO "S" mint mark:
