I was going through some Ike's, re-examining them and I picked up on this 71S Business Strike "Blue Ike" that I must have missed the possibility of being a DDR! Is this a possible DDR and if so, what DDR#? Looks like decent notching on some of the letters and stars on the reverse. I can't find any sign of doubling on the Obverse. Also got this listed on the Ikegroup forum for help. Chuck. * Just sent pics etc to DR Wiles( CONECA) I'll post his response etc.* Top of the A in America Top of M in America Letter F Bottom of First S in States Top of First T in States Base of the are in Dollar Top Right Star- under Eagles wing/Left of America Second Star- Left of America Third Star/ Left of America

Quote:I got 6 proof Ikes off ebay yesterday for my Dansco album. They had them listed as a package deal so I filled a bunch of spaces at once. The '73 through '78 package included a type I and a type II '76. I can wait to get them in my hands. Very nice!

One additional picture on the 71s possible DDR. I just found this cluster of raised die dots from a pitted or rusted die above the N in ONE and to the left of the main crater on the reverse. Hopefully this should narrow down what DDR this coin could be. Chuck.

Terry: I have to admit, I was kind of surprised with Dr Wiles answer, as I've seen others that are listed and not as prevalent with notching that this coin has. That being said, however, I'm not about to question Dr Wile's reasoning on this, that's for sure! Anyway, getting back to latest finds, today I found a 71S SILVER! Uncir in one of the $100.00 bags and in another bag I found a real nice 1776-1976 P Type 1 in Mint State, but this coin below made my day! A High Mint-State 1973D! I still can't believe this was in one of the bags and not banged up etc! A lot of mint luster is still on this one.

Chuck, Good Job It amazes me how any Ike's came out without being all scratched up from the bags they get shipped in. Terry

I come across IKEs on occassion and I always pic them up. they are always circulated. What the heck am I suppossed to do with these? Should I just hold on to them? Is there any value in them if they ar circulated?

There are new varieties being found in the Eisenhower dollarseries quite often. And there are quite a number of very interesting varieties already in the series. I found two varieties just last week in my own collection that are both the second coins of there particular variety to be found. 1974 S Micro "S" Copper-Nickle Clad Proof. 1972 S 40% Silver with die trails. Very interesting day that was. But that is the way it tends to happen with the Eisenhower dollar series. The discoveries and ability to find examples of the Ike varieties is not the exclusive domain of the big coin collecting experts You just to have a decent magnifying glass and a treasure hunters curiosity and passion for coins. Without the passion why would you even want to bother. Chuck is right the http://www.ikegroup.org/is ground zero for Eisenhower dollar research and they are a great group of collectors with a passion for Ike's I wish you the best of luck with your coins Terry

I spotted this 1971D FEV on ebay last week ( picked up on the 2 over flow lines in between the N &E on the Reverse. Pd $1.99 plus $2.00 S & H total $3.99. The coin arrived in the mail this afternoon, and while examining the coin I think this coin is either a LDS or VLDS of the same coin that I found in a bank bag that I sent to Dr.Wiles that is now the CONECA 1971D 1DO-001/1DDR-001(RDV-006). Attributed as an EDS. I think that looks like the remnants of the trapazoid shaped die chip in between the T & are of trust on the obverse, plus some notching on the a few of the letters on the obverse. Also there is the notching of the 2 L'S on the Reverse (RDV-006) What do you think? Also posted over on the IKE Group for help etc. Chuck. *2 L's of DOLLAR on the Reverse

Chuck, Nice Job It definitely looks like the same one as the first one you found just a later die state like mine. Not much left of the die marker between the "T" and the "R" but there is enough there to identify it. Very Cool. I like the price also. CONGRATULATIONS Terry
