No problem Chuck, A quick search of that name "Homer G Crowden" Turned up that he was Acting Commander of the 380th Space Control Squadron on 11 May 1942. Who knows what kind of position he may have been in by the time the Ike's released. I could imagine Commanders and former Commanders of the 380th Space Control Squadron receiving examples of Ike's in a special presentation considering the theme of the Eisenhower Dollar. The First Human landing on the surface of the moon. Good start for some research maybe there are more sets out there like that. Enjoy the weekly Half Dollar hunt I wish you the best of luck Terry

This 1972s Unc Ike? was in the same presentation box. I've never seen the earth look like this- no definition of the islands - it's like everything has been polished away! Also, all around the rim on the Reverse is a brilliant mirror finish like it was supposed to be a 1972S Proof. I really need help figuring this one out. I'm posting pics over at the ike group also. Chuck. Proof like mirror finish. Proof like mirror finish

You know when you get one of those feelings? If it were me I would not separate those Ike's from that case until I did some research. Just a feeling. As far as the 1972 S Earth issue WELCOME to the Ike Strange Earth Club my friend. I won this one awhile back and have yet to find a clear explanation for it. I had one person suggest die polishing but with the extremely clean edges of everything else around it I'll wait and see if you get an explanation of cause Here are some shots of mine for comparison. It is in a PCGS MS67 Slab Terry

Beautiful Ike, Terry!
I posted over at the Ike group, so lets see if I get a response or not.
On a different note,
I got the "HARD COVER" Ike book in the mail this afternoon!
Just started looking through it earlier this evening and man it is loaded with info, pics etc, 39 chapters, around 500 pages.
It's going to take a while for me to read the whole book and comprehend everything, but if you love IKE'S, this will keep your attention, that's for sure.
Terry, you are going to love it!
Rob, ET AL, did one heck of a professional job publishing this book!

That's a wonderful looking '72! I had some more ikes arrive today...time for some dancing fruit! Decided against buying a full set of proofs from someone on ebay and get orginial mint sets instead. I'm really impressed with the cameo appearance of the 1978 proof set. Much more so than any of the other sets! Time to don the gloves, get out the crowbar, and set them free! Just 8 more Ikes to go before I complete my first-ever set as a newbie collector.

Thanks! I am enjoying it. I finally got all the coins jail broken out of the sets. Those mint set cases were well put together! Cracked them out in a very literal sense. The cases must have been sonically welded together. I was cracking away with a knife, and plastic shrapnel was flying! All the coins came out with no damage to anything except the cases.

Terry: The 5 Ike's I had submitted to ANACS came in the mail yesterday! I'm a little disappointed in the 71D DDO / DDR on 2 levels: 1st, They (ANACS) would not acknowledge the coin as a CONECA Discovery and to add insult to injury, they graded it 2 levels lower than Dr WILES- (IMHO- THE #1 AUTHORITY ON IKE'S!) DR Wiles listed it on CONECA as MS60 and ANACS graded it AU58! 2nd: They (ANACS) sent a note back stating that this variety has been listed and plated in the Wexler, Crawford & Flynn book since 1998. That is true, however, they (WC&F) never acknowleded this as a RDV-006. I'm not going to worry about it too much because I have the ORIGINAL attribution signed letter by DR Wiles clearly attributing this coin as a new DDO find and my name is listed in the CONECA files on line as also the finder of this coin * It's also the only coin right now listed on ANACS Population Report DDO-001/RDV006.AU58-1. (until you send your's in?) The other disappointment is the 77 Ike- Not attributed as improperly annealed/sintered planchet. I can't argue about this one as I wasn't sure if it was or wasn't It was a crap shoot and I lost on it! The biggest disappointment to me was the grade on the 1972D peg leg. I thought for sure it would grade out low MS and to come back as a AU 58? I guess there was too much wear on the high spots The coin has lot's of luster, real nice die clashes also and yet didn't grade to MS? On a happier note, the 71D got attributed as a Peg LEG! and the 72P Type 2 as a "MARCH DIES" Also, 4 out of 5 lincoln cents got attributed as trail dies/wavy steps/wide am's etc and real nice MS 63/64/65 grades. Talk about a winded post! whew, sorry about that, but here are the pics!

Mach 1 Very Nice and frosty Ike Chuck, Very interesting 71-P Sorry to hear about the Anacs adventure not quite going the way it should. My thoughts are that the coin collecting world is a small one to begin with and the Eisenhower Collecting world is even smaller yet. And we all know who is who in the zoo. And who discovered what and when it was discovered. and even who found the second specimens. Plus you have the paper work from Dr. Wiles. And a big Congratulations on the Peg Leg and The March Dies Very Cool Terry

Thanks Terry! You got me wondering exactly how many Type 2's I've found since I started getting hooked on IKE'S (under 2 years now) So far: It's at least 6 from August and 5 from March. I've sold 8 of them cause I only have 3 left right now and they are all March. I'm just going to have to pull some more "AUGUST" Type 2's out of those $100.00 bags again (LOL!) Regarding attribution: Can't fight CITY-HALL" if you get my drift. I got the coin and I got the letter, so it is what it is. *The 71S Proof Peg Leg that was in the presentation box- both Dr Wiles and Mr Roberts looked at the pics and both said it's too minor of a DDO to bother with getting attributed. End of story on that one* Happy Hunting! Chuck.
