Closing out 2024 with 125 silver dimes after a couple of 1964 P Rosies this week. Traveling over the holiday will probably make today's skunking the last hunt of the year but man what a ride!
Aside from plucking silver out of circulation, my biggest takeaway from dime hunting this year has been the preponderance of shorting in CWR. Once in a while I'll come across a roll with an extra dime or two but holy smokes the frequency with which I have to add 2, 3, 4 or even 5 dimes back is not insignificant. Right behind that is how INfrequent silver is in MWR (and not much better in CWR).

Nice finds, everyone. I recently searched my 800th box of dimes. Box number 799 was spectacular, containing two rolls of solid silver dimes, my first big find since this summer. It was welcome after a period of many boxes in which I found relatively little silver - and, like pound_foolish, many short rolls. One roll was all silver Roosevelts, the other all Mercury dimes - mostly from the 1940s, with two 1939s, one 1936, and one well-worn 1918. All the Mercury dimes were Philadelphia coins. While the next box - number 800 - was not as spectacular, it was well above average, containing three Mercuries (1925, 1944, 1945, all P) and two silver Roosevelts, including a BU 1964. My average is holding steady at about 1.2 silvers per box without the big finds, and 1.8-1.9 silver per box when the occasional hoard of silver coins is included in the total.

Wow, TomM! Awesome find! I always salivate when I see those old-style rolls, and even moreso when they have the word "silver" written on them somewhere.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

You may have seen in the thread about finding entire rolls of silver coins, but I happened upon a CWR with 23 Roosevelt and 27 Mercury dimes yesterday on my drive from Philly to north GA. I'll be stopping back on Tuesday during the return trip to see if those tellers have more. But here's what was in that roll (plus a lone 1944 S Merc in a MWR from the same search): Counting down from newest to oldest: 1957 D 1950 P 1950 D 1948 P 1947 S 1947 P x 6 1946 D x 4 1946 P x 7 1945 P x 3 1944 D 1944 P x 6 1943 S 1943 P x 4 1942 D 1942 P x 4 1941 P 1940 P 1937 P x 3 1936 P 1927 P Lots of hole fillers for the circ merc album and a few for the circulating Rosie album, too. Hopeful that this is an auspicious start to 2025.
