I have seen many split serifs like that that are not RPMs. I have seen some RPMs that have a split serif but also have other indicators/markers on the MM. I'm looking at Variety Vistas mint mark style (MMS) page and the style for 1971 Denver was MMS 008. It's easy(?) for me to perceive the two split serifs occurred when the die was punched the first time because of the style of the MM. To ramble on; I look for more than one style of marker (e.g. only split serif) to identify most RPMs...I hope to see more than the simple integrity of the MM compromised or in only one aspect or area of the MM. I was just there trying to match up which obv/rev combo I have on this coin. It is ODV-027, but the steps are too worn for me to determine if the reverse is RDV-002 or 8.
