Uncirculated Wheat And Memorial Cents Stuck In Plastic Tubes

Swanie1 New Member United States 21 Posts	Posted 07/18/2010 2:17 pm When my Dad died in 1996, I acquired five rolls of sealed(plastic coin tubes) of brilliant uncirculated wheat and memorial cents. They are stuck in the tubes and won't come out. They were sealed with the plastic lids on the tubes. They are in the years and mints as follows: 1957D, 1958D, 1959D, 1959P, and 1960D. Can anyone tell me what their value would be? Also, how can I remove them from the stuck plastic tubes? Suggestions, please. Report this Post to the Staff

Davest Valued Member United States 325 Posts	Posted 07/18/2010 3:52 pm take two pair of vice grips, apply one pair to top of tube, other pair to bottom of tube, move vice grips in opposite directions, tubes will snap. I suggest you do this over a table with a towel placed on it. The coins won't roll on cloth near as well as they will on an uncovered top. Report this Post to the Staff

I have seen this before on BU rolls in plastic tubes. The tubes contained PVC or some other chemical that caused the cents to take a greenish color and the tubes had to be broken to the coins out. They were all stuck together and only after a very long soak in acetone (two weeks) did they start to come apart. Report this Post to the Staff
