Never been into bills so I know nothing about them but I got a 1934 five dollar bill that's in nice condition. I'm sure it's not worth much but hoping it's worth more than $5, even if its only $8. Any thoughts?

Yeah, definitely worth keeping!
The value depends on the serial number and condition. The average circulated one probably isn't worth much more than face though.

That's too bad coinsearcher but for $5.00 it's worth just keeping. maybe in 50 years it will be worth $10.00 plus inflation lol.

Found these a while ago in circulation. Anyone know if they have any value, or should I just spend them? The $5 bill is series 1988 A and the $10 bill is from 1963. The $1 and $5 borders are pristine, the $10 border has the crease that runs to the top.

Hi, dragonred!
I'm thinking out of those bills: The $1 is a definite keeper. The $10 is a keeper if you can afford it, but not much value yet. The $5 is all up to you.

Hello coinsearcher.
Even with the star on the $10 its still not worth much?

Yeah, probably not, honestly. When it comes to star notes, it's usually the one dollar bills that get premiums, and only in high grades. However, as time goes on, these will start to disappear, and the ones that remain will likely get a premium.

, dragonred385! Quote: Even with the star on the $10 its still not worth much? And never will be. People who can afford to collect $10 bills can afford to pay $20 for a new one.

I was cashing a $500 check in 2000 and found this about half way through the stack of $20's. Never had luck like this happen before or after!

DanMan, those are called National Bank Notes. Honestly I don't exactly know how they work...
Hmm.. Wikipedia, anyone?

Nationals come in two types. The common ones are on Federal reserve banks. The scarcer ones are on individual banks. They can issue as many $ worth as they own in gubmint bonds.
Never heard of Mahanoy City, so this is prolly a scarcer note. Relatively low serial and nice condition.

Mahonoy City is an old Anthracite town in the coal region of NE PA. My Mother-in-Law is from the nearby town of Ashland and she has ccousins in another nearby town of Minersville.

There were two issuing banks in Mahanoy City, both considered R5 (3-5 known) in my old Std Cat.
