I've been roll searching pennies on and off for a few years and noticed that die clashes (hanging dates) occur on groups of dates that are decades apart. So I Kept looking, found some more and filled in the gaps. I am currently putting a set together from 1937 to date but I a missing 20 dates. Since this error occurs on this wide of a range, I can assume that it can occur on every year and even every denomination. Doing more research I know how they were made, how often some happen and have even seen multiple images of Victorian large cent with clash marks.
the break down:
1859-1901
Queen Victoria - one
1902-1910
King Edward VII - none
1910-1920 large cents
King George V - none
1920-1936 small cents
King George V - none
1937-1952
King George VI - missing 5
1953-1964
Queen Elizabeth II - complete
1965-1981
Queen Elizabeth II - missing 6
1982-1989
Queen Elizabeth II - missing 4
1990-2003
Queen Elizabeth II - missing 5
2003-2010
Queen Elizabeth II - complete but not all varieties
Can anyone supply me an image for the missing date groups 1902-1910, 1911-1920 and 19203-1936.
I am aware of the composite images on municanada.com but they don't tell me wich areas have the highest probability of clash marks.

Here is a photo of an 1881 Victorian large cent with heavy bead clash on reverse. I have some others that I can post when I find a few mins.  |

thanks for the photo.
I've seen lots of the Victorian versions, I have one on 1886, but can you find one with King Edward or King George obverse (1902-1936).

none of my EVII-GV have it but I think my '42 and '52 have some clash or hub doubling, are they on your missing list? I have a QX-5, can try to get pics but I hate using this thing.
Are you gonna write the book on clashes?

I have both those years with die clashes a reverse doubling (mechanical). The '52 I more likely to have a clash mark than the '62.
I could write the book but I need more data.

This post is interesting. I am in the process of trying to determine which years have known die clashes. According to your list, you have found many more on 1 cent coins than I have. I barely found anything between 1981 and 1997, but you seem to have plenty :)
Maybe we can put in common our lists and see what's missing?

I need to travel to shop with a good supply to find much of the older ones.

Ok yeah, you have much more than I have, nice to know so many exist. From my research so far, I can tell you those you haven't listed that exist:
Victoria: 1882H, 1884, 1888, 1895, 1896. They tend to be mostly beads from reverse clashed on obverse.
1901-1920 large: Nothing
1920-1936: 1920,1927,1928,1930,1932,1936 mostly marks on obverse around the king's neck.
Then the rest, all I have you have. Mind you, those dates I gave you are for known dates, but I don't have them.
What about other denominations? Do you look for them as well, or are you concentrating on pennies?

I search every denomination for varieties, clashes and doubling. Starting to roll search nickels now and paying less attention to pennies. still putting together the nickel set but I have three clashed dimes; 1968, 1995 and 1998, although I've seen a couple 1948's and 2001. Quarters: 1941, 1943, 1975, Feb 1999, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 (30+), 2007 and 2008. 50 cents: 1945 and 1950, plenty more are known. Seen lots of silver dollar clashes but just have the 1963.

Late die state 1859 DP#2 cents show a noticeable clash on the obverse, above the monarch's head. Many, many more Victorian dies clashed.

-Dan: I'm assuming you're talking about 1 cent coins? I'll add them to my list of known dates :)
-Cubro: Your data is very interesting. You have over 30 clashes for 2006 quarters only? How pronounced are they? I'll post a list of mine here too then.
