Please help me determine is this is the Uber Rare Close AM. This has been givng me fits all day. I have not figured out how to tell based on teh engravers initials. I guess I do not have my eyes calibrated yet. LOL

Sorry. It looks like a regular Wide AM reverse to me.

Compare the designer's initials here: http://www.varietyvista.com/Lincoln...0Changes.htm

Check the location of the A in STATES. The A is centered between the T's on the Wide AM reverse, and offset closer to the second T on the Close AM reverse.
The coin in question is a Wide AM reverse.

Yup...the whole design is wrong for it to be the Close AM.

One thing a bunch of people seem to miss is that it is not ONLY the A and M that is different between these designs. In fact, just about every single detail of these designs is very slightly different, only a few of them different enough for us to detect easily. One, of course, is the A and M and the spacing between them. The second well known difference is the spacing of the initials from the right base of the memorial building. The third (and I think much easier than the initials) difference is the fact that on the older " Wide AM" design the A of STATES is evenly spaced between the two Ts. On the newer " Close AM" design the same letter is shifted decidedly to the right. There is much more space to the left of the A than to the right. So you can see there's no reason to guess which one you have by the A and M alone. Stop guessing with one single marker and start looking at the other markers.

Sweet deal, thank you! It must have been the dark area, I just could not tell. I must have looked at about 20 of those and this was th eonly one I was not sure about. LOL

Thank you for telling me about the last marker! I was not aware of it.
