hello. I was just wondering if anybody here collects (or has found) two and Three Cent pieces. if you do, I would love to see them! I have 1 Two Cent and 1 three cent- both 1865 |

I have some of both. But wait until you see nohopes 2 cent collection. Its amazing.

Oddly enough out of well over 100 Albums, those are the few for some reason I never got around to collecting. I too have some of each in 2x2's but nothing like a collection.

Nohope - Love that 2 cent :) (and awesome photo of it too) Here's my 3 cent proof :) I've got a business strike 3 cent, and also a 2 cent - both circulated though. I'll post those after if I can find the photos.   Edited by mshev

maybe a dumb question but in relation to like a silver dime, how much silver was in the silver versions of these coins
I could look it up but I like it when people answer questions on here so others can see the answer too

Chris - according to Wikipedia:
Mass: (1851--53) 0.8g
(1854--73) 0.75g
Composition: (1851--53) 75% Ag,25% Cu
(1854--73) 90% Ag,10% Cu
So for the '51-53: 75% * 0.8g = 0.6 g
and '54-73: 90% * 0.75 g = 0.675 g
A silver dime has 2.25 g of silver in it. Obviously silver 3 cents aren't traded for their silver content or they'd go for about 75 cents.

Very interesting on the compositions I looked them up last night as well very cool little coins the 2 cent coin seems a little plain for my taste I like the 1865 style 3 cent piece more then the other 3 cent coin as well cool thread but isn't it supposed to be in the classic US coins forum |

i really enjoy early type odd type coins. although my Three Cent is a little corroded, (is that how you spell it?) I still like it. I will try to upgrade soon. |

Cool coins! I've got a Three Cent Silver, sweet coin alright 1853 I think. Not big on those though, I dont really know why. |
